The contribution of innovative British architects

If we were to scour the globe we would find many examples of supreme British architectural ability. There is an incredible and outstanding amount of architectural talent in the UK and the genius that seeps through our land has contributed to the creation of iconic and beautiful landmarks all around the Earth. This simply monumental contribution to the face of our planet reflects the British commitment to the nurturing of creative ambition and passion, along with encouraging and enabling sensational craftsmen and women to realise their potential and successfully design and erect key buildings around the globe.So great is the success of British architecture that many areas of industry actively support it and its indelible contribution to landmarks and buildings worldwide. In 2012, The Icopal Group, famous for its environmentally friendly approach to professional roofing and waterproofing, made the decision to honour the wealth of talent and skill prevalent in the industry by commissioning a series of portraits capturing 45 of the most prodigious and exciting architects in the country. The pictures were taken by celebrated architectural photographer Timothy Soar and the exhibition was aptly titled The Faces of British Architecture. This exclusive event at The Building Centre in London was specifically intended to honour and represent the diversity and unrivalled skill that exists within the sector. Using black and white images of the faces perfectly presented the exciting array of potential available from so many different artistes along with celebrating the collective and unified contribution to the industry itself.Pioneer of modernist architecture Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and Phil Coffey were among the innovative architects included in the exhibition. The former has been at the helm of some incredible projects such as The Oxford Ice Rink and Heathrow Airport's Terminal 3 and the latter has been included in an extensive list of awards and exhibitions as well as being responsible for ambitious and successful projects around the world.Coffey Architects was formed on the basis of a real passion for architecture, a love of people and their needs and a dedication to creating architecture that meets the needs of the modern world while always being sympathetic to nature and the environment. We were proud that our achievements were recognised enough to be included in this great photography exhibition.
